Maker Case Study
Plymouth Argyle Football Club
The grandstands were approximately six years old when the stadium manager noticed that the overall condition of the steel was deteriorating, with corrosion spots breaking through the original coating.
Maker Coating Systems Ltd were tasked with recommending an effective coating system, able to be applied to manually prepared steel & to provide long term protection.
One of the problems suffered by the Plymouth Argyle stands is that the interior structure is open to the atmosphere which allowed the airborne salts to accumulate. Usually this is not a problem as rain would typically wash away the salts, however given that the stands are covered, the salts concentrated over time and attacked the previous coating. As part of our written recommendation we required surfaces to be washed down with fresh water to remove dirt & general grime & then wire brushed to remove corrosion deposits, lose & flaking material.
Recommended Coating System
1. Stripe coat hand prepared steel with Amerlock 400AL Aluminium at 125mµ DFT
2. Apply an intermediate coat of Amerlock 400c high solids epoxy at 80mµ DFT
3. Finish coat with Amercoat 450s Polyurethane at 50mµ DFT
Total System film build 255mµ
As part of our service we also devised a cleaning & maintenance schedule which will keep the steelwork in pristiene condition for many years to come.
